Departmental History: Department of Commerce commenced its academic activities in the session 1986-87 offering3 years Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (B.com), being the first women’s college of North-Kashmir where B.com was introduced. The feeding area of the Department is almost entire north Kashmir with students coming from far flung areas of Tangmarg, Uri and Rafiabad. Later on the Department introduced UGC-Sponsored course i.e. B.com with Office Management and Secretarial Practice. In 2016, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir approved one more subject “Banking Law and Practice” and the Department is likely introduced it as a subject in the academic session 2018-19.Moreover,the Department organizesshort-term certificate courses in “Tally Accounting” during vacations.
Ever since its inception, the Department has produced a number of B.com pass out batches among which the number of students are working at reputed positions in various government and private sector organizations.
Keeping pace with the technological advancements in every sphere of life more particularly in the business world, the Department has an up-to date computer library equipped with modern facilities to cope with the student’s need of learning. Besides this, the college has a “smart class room” of which teaching faculties of Department makes frequent use to make students learning more interesting. Also the students take advantage of edu-sat facilityof college and attend lectures from experts ofthe subject.
College has a well-established state of the art library which has more than 3000 books on commerce besides other business magazines and periodicals.
To shape up the personality of students and to meet the demands of market the Department has adopted modern pedagogical practice which includescase studies, group discussions, debates and presentations. The Department also organizes such events and programmes which enhance the managerial and entrepreneurial abilities of students with various organizations of interest like JKEDI. Apart from this the Department regularly organizes industrial tours to various industrial estates of the state so that students get a practical orientation of modalities of business which is an inevitable part of modern commerce education
Number of students enrolled in the current session 2017
|At present (2017) more than 90 students are enrolled in the Department pursuing B.com under Annual System, Semester System and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
