Departmental History

The Department of Urdu was established in the year 1985.It is one of the oldest departments of the college.The Departmentsince its inception upheld its commitment towards fulfilling its mandate through the medium of quality instructions. To inculcate the moral values andthe spirit of humanism and brotherhood among the students and transmit it inthe societyhas been the top most priority of the department. The promotion of Urdu language and literature has been the mission of the department and many activities and programs are being carried out to achieve the goal.
The Department has a legacy of producing good citizens, administrators and scholars. It has a privilege of being served by distinguished scholars of Urdu language and literature. A distinguished scholarand writer Prof. Abdul Rashid Khanserved the department and promoted the very cause of education and Urdu language. The Department provides thevibrant environment for learning and exploration where both teachers and students interact without barriers of class, creed, caste and gender. To nourish and cherish the creativity and intellect of students they are offered freedom, space, platform and opportunities.
The Department has a reputation of being one of the efficient and active departments in the college. It does not confine the process of teaching and learning to classrooms but exposes students toseminars, conferences, debates, ‘Musharias’ (poetic symposium) and other programs. In the recent past (2015) the department organized a National seminar on the theme “Urdu Afsane Mai KhawateenKeMasaialkiNishandahi’’(Identification of Women’s issue in Urdu Short Stories. The Department aims to support the students by providing them sound infrastructure in the form of well designed and well equipped library-cum-seminar hall, Spacious and furnished lecture halls apart from the ICT enabled computer lab. By virtue of its dedicated faculty and sound infrastructure, the Department serves to offer high quality education. The Department possesses a well established team of dedicated and experienced faculty members. The Department currently offers three years Degree Course at the undergraduate level. The diverse socio-economic background of students adds to the charm and beauty of the department. Thousands of students come from far flung areas of Baramulla district like Uri, Boniyar, Rafiabad, wagoora, Pattan, Sopore tehsils.

Facilities Available

The Department has a well-equipped laboratory with all the necessary facilities for undergraduate students and even for higher studies.
